Mizzen mast replacement was created by Rüdiger Schlaga
Hurricane Matthew took the mizzen mast down on my Whitby 42. It was badly bent so I have to replace it, If I would find a used spar I'd be happy. Could someone tell me a source for this used spars? If I wouldn't find one I would continue with a sloop instead just as Gerry on TIH is favoring. Any information is appreciated!

Taken from the Alberg 30 site;

Mast; According to Whitby's brochure (circa 1968), the mast extrusion is 6" by 3.6" of 0.13" thick aluminum.
Hugh McCormack reports, "Our mast is 34 feet 9.25 inches from the cap to the bottom of the extrusion."
According to Torresen Marine's site, the I dimension (height of the foretriangle from top of sheave to the sheerline) is 36 feet or 10.97 meters.

Mast in GCS

I think we need one of our fellow Whitby/Brewers in Green Cove Springs to take a walk over to where they are dismantling boats.

There was some discussion here about a year ago about looking for a mizzen mast replacement. I am seriously considering removing my mizzen and converting her to a cutter rig. Have not worked out the particulars yet but that would mean I have to get rid of the full mizzen rig including sails and boom . Anyone interested or have a comment , let me know

I know it's been a while, but did you ever remove the mizzen rig?

Hi Robert, I haven't been back to this site for a while, so here my belated answer: Yes I did take down and forget about a mast replacement. Instead I installed an arch and davits to make life easier.
The sailing performance is very acceptable. I don't miss the mast very much because I hardly ever sailled the mizzen anyhow.
