Interest in Miami Rendezvous in Feb 2014?

Is anyone be interested in a mini (one day) Whitby-Brewer Rendezvous in Dinner Key FL? We would like to meet around the Miami Boat Show, which is 14-17 Feb 2014. It would be a chance to get to meet up with folks who might not be able to make it the Annual Rendezvous held near Annapolis in the Fall. And for those of us snowbird types, we get to visit with all y'all again.

A tentative plan is to reserve a meeting room so we can visit and share presentations on our boats, cruising, safety, maintenance, etc. The cost for the room would be shared. Mooring or dockage would be left up to the crews to arrange. Lunch and dinner would be at local restaurants.

Would you be interested in attending?
Would you prefer to attend before or after the Boat Show? We already have one vote for after, so folks can get the best prices from vendors on the last day of the show.

You can respond here in the forum, or by contacting Cindy Ann Bowers at syndianne_at_yahoo.com.

Miami in February is not the Bahamas in February. I was wondering if anyone was interested in having a meetup in the Bahamas such as Sampson or Staniel Cay. There are so many Whitby's in the Bahamas that I though it would be nice to get them all together in one anchorage and show all the Beneteaus and Hunters and all those other cruising boats our colours and popularities. After all we Whitby owners Do have the best cruising boats in the south, bar none. Anyone interested in the Bahamas?

Bahamas sounds great! See new thread so we can keep the planning separate from Miami.

We are in Brunswick and would be able to make Miami in February. We would not be able to work the Bahamas angle.

Let us know regarding meeting up at Dinner Key in Miami.

Excellent! We'll keep you posted. We're still trying to find a budget-minded site.

Yes I would definitely attend the meeting if held. Please let me know. The date: After the show would fit my schedule if it is the day following the end of the show.
Thanks, Kiko Villalon B-44-289

Carolynn and I are planning to come as well - prefer after the show but we will likely be there before that to visit with friends who are going to the show. Not sure at this point if we will go to the Bahamas afterward, or just pick our way down the Keys.

Folks have expressed interest in a day after the show, so let's firm this up as Tuesday, 18 February. Location to be posted soon. The meeting room we were looking at is too pricy, so we may squat in a picnic area.

We have a location! (Thanks to Gerry, our local Miami rep)

We will gather on Feb 18th at Picnic Island near Dinner Key. Still to be determined is the start time and programs. If anyone has topics they would like to lead a discussion about, please speak up.

The location is good for a pot luck meal. Lunch would probably be the best choice, then we can depart the island and do dinners elsewhere, maybe in smaller groups?

Miami mini rendezvous - proposed schedule

I suggest we gather for potluck picnic lunch around noon. After lunch we can socialize, attempt boat tours via dinghy, bring show'n'tell items of interest, do presentations on laptops (at the Jacksonville meetup, we all managed to squeeze in to look at Myron's rudder redesign slides), and whatever else we can think of until it gets dark or we get hungry again. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Reconnoiter complete: Picnic Island looks great, no trash, clean. There is a dock but it is posted as "Pick up/drop off only, no docking", and it's a little rough. Nice sand beach next to the dock for easy landing. No grills on the island. No restrooms either. The tented area with picnic tables should provide plenty of room for everyone. The tiki hut nearby looks new but is smaller and has no tables/seating.

The mooring field is full at the moment but people will probably start to move on after the art show and boat show which are both this weekend.
