Asking for info on installing a composting toilet in the forward head on a Whitby42.
Which toilet did you choose and why?
Any tips for a smooth install.
Thanks,
Jack

When fitting out Red Ranger, we installed a Nature's Head. I can't remember why we chose that one over the air head (too long ago), but I have no complaints about the Nature's Head. The urine jug is easily removed for emptying (ashore, if we are in a slip). I use a coir brick in the solids compartment and the 2 of us can usually go 2-3 weeks before needing to empty that. For ocean passages, I did mount an eye pad to secure the solids box to a line when emptying overboard.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Thank you for your quick response. Good tip about the eye pad. Any chance you might have some pictures of the completed project?
Thanks

We installed ours in the aft head. We installed the air vent too low on the outside and got water inside when the deck drains clogged. Fixed that with a high loop of air hose.

We also installed a Nature's Head aft based on recommendations from other cruisers. I haven't heard anything negative regarding the Air Head. Not sure if there is really much functional difference? The Nature's Head has worked well for us. Having both types of heads, we especially like the option of using the regular head when off shore (directly overboard) or in places like Marathon (holding tank) where the pump out boat comes to the boat regularly, or using the Nature's Head everywhere else.
Sorry I'm not on the boat at the moment so can't provide pictures of our install. But there are a few pictures from Creola here: whitbybrewersailboats.com/photo-gallery/...es-head-installation

When we had our Brewer 12.8 we installed an Airhead in the forward head. I had Geoff at Airhead install a nipple in the urine bucket and plumbed it under the cabin sole to the holding tank on the starboard side. I used a galley type foot pump to pump urine across into the holding tank. Worked great. A tip: you can’t install the nipple with glue. It won’t stick. You can order the urine bucket from Airhead with one installed wherever you want it.

Thank you Scott. There is probably more info and pics on the website, just not tech savvy enough to find it. Hope you and yours are doing well.
