Full Battens with Roach vs. Standard Battens flat

Ahoy Senior experienced Whitby 42 sailors,

I blew out my Fully Battened roached Main Sail a few weeks ago during a microburst in a thunderstorm.

Please advise me on replacement. Should I get an exact copy? Should I get a Standard Batten flat sail?

Pros and Cons please. I know that flutter and flogging ages a sail. I would need to have tight leech line
to prevent flutter on a standard batten sail ...correct?

My goal is optimum performance with durabillity. I want the sail to last.
Need ATTENTION TO DETAIL to copy the curves of the Roach...correct?
Can just any sail loft do that? What about Hong Kong shops? Are they OK?

Would Doyle in Annapolis be good to have one built?

They made our Doyle Stack Packs/lazy jacks and we are very happy with them. Flaking is automatic.
The sails fold away nicely and then we simply zip them up.

Thanks for your time,

Patrick and Lisa on Gaia hull 332

Patrick, Glenn Housley in Annapolis is the best sailmaker for cruising sails. Tell him we said to call. As for battens or not, I can't help because we have a roller furled main. Fair winds, Hannah
