Bimini

First Generation Bimini

Buying a boat in Florida requires protection from the Sun.  This Bimini, dark blue, gave sun protection, but generated too much heat underneath.

Second Generation Bimini-1

Using the same frame a new material, Weblon, was applied.  It was two sided, white on the outside (reflect heat) and grey on the inside (restful for the eyes).

Second Generation Bimini-2

Medium Grey interior gave a respite from the glaring sun.

Third Generation Bimini-1

A new frame/bimini was constructed to support 4 130 watt solar panels.  It needed to be strong, both frame and material.

Third Generation Bimini-2

After discussing the merits of using a hard or soft material a decision was made to use Stamoid, which should last 20-25 years.

Third Generation Bimini-3

Drop down/roll up 'windows' were made using stratoglass attached by tracks and bolt-rope to the frame.

Third Generation Bimini-4

Double sided zippers and twist lock fasteners are used to snug the 'solarium', keeping out the wind and rain and keeping in the warmth from the sun.  Perfect for a winter day!
