Cracks in spreader base on Brewer 44 hull #304 was created by Edwin (Ted) Bovill
We have a Brewer 44 (S/v Rosa dos Ventos) built in 1989 and are currently at Shelter Bay Marina in Panama. Upon inspecting our mast before returning to the states for the hurricane season this year, we discovered that one of our spreader bases has 2 cracks at the holes through which the spreader base is screwed to the mast. Our mast is the Hood in-mast furling design and is original to our boat.

Does anyone know if these spreader bases or their equivalent are available anywhere or, if not, has anyone had experience having replacements fabricated?

The simplest solution would be to have a good welder beef up the cracked part. They could even duplicate it is necessary.

Rig Rite is also a good source for parts, but I don't see spreaders on there. You have to id your mast manufacturers first (not hard). Its possibly an Isomat.

From Terry

Mast is most likely Hood. Still in business but don't see any mast parts. email: pompanette@pompanette.com
