See some info about Tacktick here. Panbo is also a great source of electronic/electrical info.

We have a TackTick anenometer installed and can not claim to be experts since we've only sailed with it once. Our Kenyon died and we couldn't find a replacement airex for it so went with the TackTick. It seems to work well for Whitbys where we don't need race level precision and responsiveness. I love the flexibility of a wireless receiver, since we had a lot of work done on the cockpit and sea hood and can now locate it wherever we want. The only trick to the instrument is "marrying" the unit and the airex electronically before you put the airex at the top of the stick. Then at anchor calibrate the unit when the airex is headed upwind.

TackTick has a NMEA 0183 hub which will gfeed any of their isntruments with any NMEA 0183 network, but we haven't bothered.

Gerry, Good find! I reviewed the discussion about AIS. I'll put an entry in the Electronics section of the Web Resources list. Thanks.
