TOPIC: Inside of Whitby 42 Fuel Tanks
#331
Inside of Whitby 42 Fuel Tanks 2 Years ago
I am interested in building a fuel polishing system but I have no idea what the inside of the port and starboard fuel tanks look like. My guess is that they are baffled but I don't know how many baffles or how they are set up. I want to clean the fuel and hopefully the tanks but I would love some input as to what I am up against. I have Hull # 148 1980 vintage.
Thanks for the help

Re:Inside of Whitby 42 Fuel Tanks 2 Years ago
After we bought Ocean Dove I open the inspection covers on both fuel tanks and made up a simple pump and filter system from the local auto parts store to pumped the diesel from the port tank to the stbd tank. I as lucky than I had enough room in one tank for all the fuel. The tanks were very dirty; I used 3 filters just to transfer the fuel. The tanks had a black scum and water in the bottom I used varsol and a long handle brush to scrub out the tank. I found no pitting in the tank. After I completed the first tank I transfer the fuel over and clean the other tank.
I removed the old filter system and installed two new Racor filter and a fuel transfer pump on the engine door to polish and transfer the fuel between tanks.
