Sarns prop lock rattle

My Sarns prop lock rattles at low rpms. Is this the norm for these units? Has anyone figured out a way to keep her quiet?

Yes it is normal, just make sure the bolts and nuts are not about to fall out. Rattle is ok it let's you know it still will move and lock the prop shaft. Regards Lew

I agree with Lew - you should watch the proplock operate when you shut the engine off to verify that it is engaging correctly. You may be able to tighten somewhat if the shaft slips under way with the engine off. Remember that if the lock does not engage and the shaft rotates when the engine is off - oil does not get to the transmission gears and you will do damage. Andy

Thank you for the responses. I understand the purpose and reason behind the unit. I just don't understand why it has to rattle so much. It is just a disc brake like found in almost every car. None of which rattle. My bicycle has a better set if brakes on it! :) Are there other prop-lock manufacturers out there? Anyone tried anything else? Thanks! Scott Joie de Vivre #88
